Tamaqua finishes strong in PV tourney

The Tamaqua 10s used a big second inning to defeat Towamensing in the final game of the Panther Valley Little League tournament Wednesday.

A seven-run second inning helped Tamaqua pull away for a 13-2 win over Towamensing in the final game for both teams in the Panther Valley 9-10-Year-Old Little League Tournament.

Tamaqua broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the second and never looked back. Blake Keich, Parker Steigerwalt and Gavin Wagner each delivered RBI singles during the rally. A passed ball and aggressive baserunning added to the damage, as Tamaqua sent 11 batters to the plate.

Towamensing opened the scoring in the first on a two-run single by Ethan Lengel, but Tamaqua tied it in the bottom half with an RBI single from Luke Tuckett and a passed ball.

Tamaqua added four more runs in the third, highlighted by a double from Peyton Steigerwalt and a groundout from Keich that brought in his second run of the night.

Peyton Steigerwalt led the offense, going 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Keich finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs, while Wagner, George Pinkey, Tuckett and Parker Steigerwalt each added hits.

Braxton Barrett earned the win on the mound, striking out five over three innings. He allowed three hits, two earned runs and three walks. Wagner tossed a perfect fourth inning in relief, striking out two.

Tamaqua drew seven walks and stole seven bases, with Lucas Brennan, Chase Eltringham, Pinkey and Keich each recording multiple steals.

Lengel led Towamensing with a 1-for-1 performance and both RBIs. Warren C. and Lucas Sutton both had hits.
