LVHN HEALTH CARE PARTNER OF THE MONTH

Cheri Silverstein Fadlon, MD

Specialty: Cardiology

Location: LVPG Cardiology–Carbon, 2226 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive East, Suite 200, Lehighton

Philosophy of Care: “My job is to empower patients to make the best decisions for themselves,” says Dr. Silverstein Fadlon.

As a practitioner of patient-centered care and evidence-based medicine, Dr. Silverstein Fadlon said she will always counsel patients on what medical science suggests is the best approach. She says educating her patients on the reasons behind her recommendations is critical too.

“Settling on an ultimate care plan relies on collaboration between me and the patient and possibly family and takes into consideration an individual patient’s values, needs and preferences.”

Services Offered: As a cardiologist, she offers a variety of services that focus on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart and cardiovascular diseases including blood pressure control, cholesterol screening and management, cardiac imaging such as stress testing, echocardiogram, electrocardiogram and Holter monitoring, and counseling on a heart-healthy lifestyle.

Conditions Treated: Cardiac conditions and diseases which include arrhythmias such as AFib (atrial fibrillation), medical management of vascular (or blocked artery) conditions such as angina, acute coronary syndrome (heart attack) or carotid artery disease, heart failure and cardiomyopathy (diseases of the heart muscle), high blood pressure and valvular disease. In addition to seeing patients with a wide variety of cardiovascular conditions, Dr. Silverstein Fadlon has a special interest in two areas: inherited heart disease (heart disease caused by genetic disorders) and heart disease in patients receiving cancer treatment (cardio-oncology).

Why did she choose medicine as a career?: Dr. Silverstein Fadlon comes from a family of health care clinicians and always had an interest in biology, but she wanted to make sure medical school was her true desire after she graduated college.

While taking a year off from school she worked for a famous jewelry company and though the experience was fun, it solidified her commitment to medical school.

“I realized I really needed a career in which I could make a meaningful difference in the lives of other individuals,” Silverstein Fadlon said.

About Dr. Silverstein Fadlon: Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Silverstein Fadlon lived all over the country. Her internal medicine residency was at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and her cardiology fellowship was at UCLA in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Silverstein Fadlon lives in the Lehigh Valley with her husband and two daughters. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, gardening, heart-healthy cooking, volunteering and supporting her children in their extracurricular activities.
