Franklin TWP.supervisors

The Franklin Township Board of Supervisors conducted the following motions at their July 15 meeting:

• Approved the renewal of the Junkyard Permit for Lehighton Scrap Recycling/JME Land Company Inc.

• Approved the request of the Carbon County Fair Association for the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Police to assist with traffic control during the Carbon County Fair, Aug. 4-9.

• Approved that the Police Pension custodian be moved from Nationwide to Charles Schwab Trust Bank, requested by Girard Pension Services LLC.

• Approved an Engagement of Special Counsel agreement with Attorney Scott R. Lipson to serve as special counsel for Franklin Township in connection with a potential condemnation action and any related legal matters that may arise. The scope of services includes legal representation for the township in matters relating to eminent domain and other relevant issues as needed. Legal fees shall be filled at the rate of $210 per hour.

• Adopted Resolution 2025-17 authorizing the acquisition by eminent domain of certain real property necessary for the creation of recreational space and for the construction of a township municipal building. Supervisor Fred Kemmerer Jr. voted no. Supervisors Jason Frey and LeRoy Kemmerer Jr. voted in favor of the motion.

• A motion that the board of supervisors approve the proposal submitted for preliminary architectural and site engineering services for the initial phase of the “Municipal Complex Development Project” failed for lack of a second motion.
