A West Penn Township man died following a two-vehicle crash in the township.
Carbon County Chief Deputy Coroner Jason T. Smith reported that an 80-year-old man died at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Carbon County, on Tuesday from injuries he sustained during the crash. He was pronounced dead at 8:13 p.m.
The crash occurred at the intersection of routes 309 and 895 in the village of Snyders, West Penn Township, Schuylkill County.
The man was the driver of one of the vehicles.
Smith said the man has been identified; however, he did not release his name to allow for notifying next of kin and the family having time to mourn the death.
According to reports from the scene, there were additional people injured in the crash who were treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a nearby trauma center. A Medevac helicopter was at the scene but the man was too critically injured to fly so was transported by ambulance.
A state police forensic team assisted the Carbon County Coroner’s Office and the West Penn Township Police Department in investigating the incident.
Fire companies from West Penn, New Ringgold, Walker Township and New Tripoli responded to the scene.
The crash investigation remains ongoing and no additional information will be released at this time, Smith said.
