State medalist Hydro honored

Sam Hydro, a 2019 Jim Thorpe Area High School graduate, is a member of the 2025 Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame.

Hydro is the only silver medalist at the PIAA state track and field championships in school history.

Hydro finished second at states in the 800 meters during the 2019 season and was both a Schuylkill League and District 11 champion and also a three-time PIAA state qualifier.

He holds numerous Jim Thorpe school records and also holds three school records at Missouri Western State University.

The Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame recently announced its Class of 2025. The 33rd class of inductees include Hydro, Ethan Mordaunt, Jarrin Geisinger, Dylan Dailey, Jonathan Lilly and the 1983 Jim Thorpe Area High School Schuylkill League tri-championship baseball team.

The Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 in the commons section of the Jim Thorpe High School starting at 1 p.m.
