Maple Shade serving free meal to seniors

Maple Shade Meadows Senior Living in Nesquehoning is cooking up events this July to, literally, serve its local seniors.

On July 21, Maple Shade Meadows is hosting a spaghetti dinner free for seniors at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center. From 4-6 p.m. day seniors can visit the center and enjoy a warm meal with warm company, and a live performance from Pennsylvania singer Lisa Dellarossa.

For access to the event, seniors can visit Maple Shade Meadows any day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. or call (570) 669-5500 to receive a voucher. Vouchers will be required at the door for entry, but are free.

Maria Mitchell, admissions and marketing director at Maple Shade Meadows, chose to host the event as a way to support the surrounding senior community and make sure the seniors know they’re appreciated.

“We want to make seniors feel appreciated and give back to our community, especially senior citizens because we are a senior living facility,” Mitchell said.

The spaghetti dinner is a first for Maple Shade Meadows, but it will not be the last of senior-focused events for this summer.

“We’ve held multiple events in the past to give back to our local community,” Mitchell said. “We’re very involved with the American Cancer Society and other organizations that we help raise money. There are a couple different events we’re planning coming up this summer and fall.”
