West Penn Township continues to glow after its first fireworks display.
At the beginning of Monday’s supervisors’ meeting, Chairman Tony Prudenti talked about Saturday’s Independence Day celebration at Morgan Park.
“It was second to none,” he said, noting that more than 500 people attended.
The event was arranged by resident Howard Pryda, a pyrotechnics professional, who was at the meeting.
“He’s the gentleman who put it on for us,” Prudenti said to a round of applause. “He’s done things for the NBA. He’s done a whole list. It’s pretty amazing, that number one, we have him in our township, and number two, that he donated his time and materials to put this show on for us.”
Prudenti and Supervisor Glenn Hummel thanked Pryda. Supervisor Jim Akins was absent.
“Next year will be better,” Pryda said.
The event served as a fundraiser for the township’s police, fire company and community ambulance. Boy Scout Tyler Buchman also held a bake sale to raise money for his Eagle Scout project — building benches for Morgan Park.
Resident Brian McClellen was on hand for the fireworks, and said it was very organized.
He commended police, fire police and volunteers for their efforts with traffic control and safety elements.
