Hundreds of people, vehicles turn out for fundraiser
Hundreds of people came out to support the Steven Gill Memorial Fundraising Car Show held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.
Almost 300 vehicles were judged in the show. Kids were treated to face painting, pony ride and other fun activities. Over 25 vendors were on hand and helped by donating a portion of their proceeds to the Steven Gill Memorial Fund.
Gill of West Penn Township was struck by an excavator and killed in May. Tara Gill, Steven’s wife, is unable to work because one of her children has medical conditions. Gill’s friends decided to hold the fundraiser to help her in her time of need.
Ali Possimato, a close friend of Tara’s, organized the event along with Roy Burger Jr., a close friend of Steven’s.
“This event we’re hosting for Tara and her three kids was a great turnout,” Possimato said. “From all the vendors to the truck clubs to everyone involved, I can’t say enough good things. We are eternally grateful to be able to give back to Tara and her family.”
Possimato said several different clubs came together for the event: Exceeding Limits Truck Club, Groundscrapers Truck Club, Freaks of Nature Truck Club and Low on Air Truck Club.
Burger Jr. echoed the sentiment of supporting a great cause and was happy the weather cooperated.
“We thought it might rain today,” Burger said. “But the weather is awesome today, and so is the turnout here. We are thrilled that everyone came together to support this worthy cause.”
Around 50 awards were presented at the show. Show judge Bryan Glaudel said the judges were grading in 14 different automotive categories, including body quality, interior, engine compartments and paint.
“We are looking for details like blemishes on the body, what the engine looks like, and if they have any custom work, whether that work is of good quality,” Glaudel said. “We are happy to give our Saturdays to be here to help Tara and her family.”
The show had a little bit of everything, including antique cars, muscle cars, newer cars, motorcycles, mini trucks, semi trucks, tractors, derby cars. There was also a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction.
The event was deemed a big success and a worthy tribute to Steven Gill.
