Local Roundup: Results from July 4-6

The Weatherly 8-10 softball team posted a pair of wins during the Section 6 tournament over the weekend.

In other action, Franklin Township gained a victory in Lehigh Valley Junior Connie Mack action.

8-10 SOFTBALL

Warrington-Weatherly

District 18 champion Weatherly used more late-game heroics Sunday, outlasting Warrington 7-6 with another walk-off — this time scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh to rally from a run down.

Trailing 2-0 early, Weatherly tied the game in the second and took a 4-2 lead in the third on an RBI hit-by-pitch by Isabella Durham and a bases-loaded walk to Cassidy Witner.

Warrington regained the lead with three runs in the fourth and added another in the top of the seventh to go ahead 6-5. But in the bottom of the frame, Briella Vanblargen tied it with an infield single, then came around to score the winning run on a passed ball.

Kenzie Clabia struck out seven over six innings, while Vanblargen pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the win. Weatherly swiped 10 bases and did not commit an error.

West End-Weatherly

Weatherly edged West End in Saturday’s opener, 4-3, on a walk-off triple from Isabella Durham in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Weatherly struck first in the opening frame when Kenzie Clabia drew a bases-loaded walk. West End tied the game in the second on a bases-loaded walk, but Weatherly responded with two runs in the bottom half on a wild pitch to make it 3-1.

West End rallied to tie it in the sixth following a Weatherly error before Durham’s clutch hit delivered the game-winner.

Clabia pitched a complete game, striking out eight and allowing just one earned run on five hits. Jenna Jones went 2-for-2 to lead the offense, while the Lady Wreckers stole nine bases as a team.

A three-run second inning proved to be the difference Friday as Franklin Township handed Lehigh Township its first loss of the season in a 4-2 victory on the road.

With two outs in the second, Aiden McCarroll put Franklin Township up 2-0 with an RBI single to score Landan Steigerwalt, who earlier singled.

Korbin Ahner capped the key frame with a two-run single to score both Roman White and McCarroll that pushed the lead to 4-0.

Ahner finished with two singles and two RBIs.

North Bethlehem-

Palmerton

Palmerton got off on the right foot, building a lead against North Bethlehem, but the Bombers couldn’t hold on and dropped a 14-11 contest on Sunday.

Xavier Ahner, Brody Mertz and Charlie Coombe all keyed a five-run first inning for Palmerton with RBI singles, while Zack Zelinsky contributed an RBI on a fielder’s choice.

Mertz paced Palmerton with three singles, a run scored and three RBIs, while Ahner chipped in with three hits, two runs and an RBI.

Cade Serfass (three singles, two runs) and Brady Ivancich (three singles, run scored) also chipped in for the Bombers.

South Parkland-Franklin Twp.

South Parkland ended Franklin Township’s three-game winning streak in Game One of a doubleheader on Sunday, as the visitors pulled out a 6-5 win.

Franklin Township jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the early going, but South Parkland flipped the script with a four-run fifth inning.

Jake Strobl finished with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs for the winners.

Logan Bellis ended with a single and two RBIs for Franklin, while Braylon Hunsicker and Pierce Goida both chipped in with a double and a run.

In Game Two of Sunday’s doubleheader, Franklin Township dropped an 18-5 decision to East Stroudsburg.

Kayden Palys, East Stroudsburg’s clean-up hitter, was a home run shy of the cycle. Palys finished with a single, double, triple, two walks, three runs and three RBIs.

Sam Rabbit also had three hits for the winners. Rabbit added a walk, three runs and two RBIs.

Braylon Hunsicker paced Franklin Township with two singles and a run scored, while Grant Birnbaum contributed a single, a run and two RBIs.

Pottsville- LGH Tax & Acct (PV)

Max Clews used his arm and bat to help Pottsville roll to an 11-0 win over LGH Tax & Acct. (Panther Valley).

Clews pitched a four-hit shutout, walking one while striking out 12.

Clews also finished 3-for-4 in the batter’s box, as Pottsville’s No. 3 hitter was a double shy of hitting for the cycle. He ended up with a single, triple, home run, three runs and four RBIs.

Gabe Perilli had a double for LGH Tax & Acct. while Mike Mazzie, Carson Jones and Peter Kruslicky all chipped in with singles.
