Car show to benefit W. Penn man’s family
A fundraiser will be held for the family of a West Penn Township man who was struck by an excavator in May in Weisenberg Township.
The Steven Gill Memorial Fundraising Car Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.
Ali Possimato, along with Roy Burger Jr., are hosting the event for Gill’s wife and children.
Possimato is close friends with Gill’s wife, Tara Gill, while Burger Jr. was close friends of Steven.
Possimato, of Bath, explained the mission of the event.
“To raise money for Tara and the kids,” Possimato said. “Tara can’t work because one of the kids has medical conditions, so this was one of the things that we wanted to try to do.”
Possimato said there is a $25 donation fee for any cars to enter show. Spectating is free, though donations are welcome.
She said the car show will feature antique cars, mini trucks, semi trucks, tractors, and derby cars, with over 47 awards given out.
“Any kids that come, they get a ticket and they get to vote for their favorite vehicle,” Possimato said. “We want to get the kids involved.”
Possimato added there will be a 50/50 raffle, Chinese auction raffle, a DJ, pony rides, face painting, and over 25 vendors on hand.
She said they are anticipating over 500 cars, and noted many people from New York State are expected to attend.
“Steven and Tara have always reached out and helped anyone they could help out,” Possimato said. “Steven would go up to New York State to plow snow when they had huge snowstorms.”
Possimato said they’re excited for the event, and hope to have a really nice turnout.
“Steven is literally the definition of help, a very good person,” she said. “He would always give, and for him doing that for all of us, we’re doing that now for him.”
Arye Pulli of Nazareth organized a GoFundMe fundraiser on behalf of Tara Gill.
As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, $23,185 had been raised.
State police from the Fogelsville barracks were dispatched to the 3700 block of Spring Road around 8:50 a.m. May 21.
An excavator rotated with a tree in the machine and struck the victim, police said.
Gill, 36, was transported by EMS to the hospital, where he died as the result of injuries.
The manner of death is accidental.
