Lehighton to celebrate 4th with fireworks, block party
A fireworks display in Carbon County is about to emblazon the skies in Lehighton on Independence Day.
Those who wish to get in the patriotic spirit even sooner can attend a block party held earlier in the day.
The Lehighton Downtown Initiative will present the Lehighton Fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Friday.
“Every year the Lehighton Downtown Initiative hosts the display of fireworks for the community,” said Bambi Elsasser, Community Operations Manager, Lehighton Downtown Initiative. “Shooting Star Fireworks will be dazzling all of us with their years of experience in the fireworks business.”
Elsasser noted that the fireworks will be displayed from the rear parking area of the Lehighton Outdoor Center.
“We would like to thank our fireworks sponsors: Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, Lehigh Fire Company #1 — Social Quarters, Community Bank, Remington & Vernick Engineers, Iron Valley Real Estate, Home Comfort Solutions, Houser Newman Associates, Zimmerman’s Dairy, Circa1898 and L.E. Williams Printing,” she said. “Also a huge thank you to the Lehighton Fire Department, the Lehighton Police and the Lehighton fire police for traffic and crowd control.”
For those who plan on arriving early for the fireworks, Elsasser said there will be placed to get food and drink along Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.
“Food trucks will be along the D & L Trailhead as well as Trailside Events,” she said. “Come early, grab a spot to sit and get a bite to eat.”
The Lehighton Parks and Recreation Committee will host a Block Party from 2-10 p.m. in the Lower Park complete with food, music, games and more.
“The best viewing area for the fireworks is along Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard,” she said. “There are other great spots all around Lehighton to watch this amazing fireworks show.”
However, Elsasser cautioned that during the show, there may be different traffic patterns encountered, as Sergeant Stanley Hoffman Boulevard will be closed during the fireworks display.
She said all traffic during this time frame will be detoured from Bridge Street to Third Street, and urged motorists to take Third Street to Ochre Street, then make a right on Ochre Street to First Street.
Elsasser said that for those who would like to see the fireworks continue, donations are being accepted.
“Fireworks are very expensive and sponsorships are down,” she said. “We want to continue to do the fireworks and next year celebrate America’s 250th Birthday.”
Elsasser urged those who wish to make donations to use the QR code or go to https://tnlvptickets.evvnt.events/organizations/9035/donate, or they may send a check to LDI, PO Box 503, Lehighton PA 18235.
“The Lehighton Downtown Initiative is a 501c3 nonprofit organization,” she said. “We hope everyone will come out and have a wonderful time at the Lehighton Downtown Initiative’s Firework display.”
