The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation released statistical date on highway events in Carbon County in 1973, reporting there were 1,268 accidents that took place in the 12-month period.

Of those, 13 were fatal accidents resulting in 14 persons losing their lives. There were 462 accidents that resulted in injuries to 700 persons.

PennDOT said 811 accidents resulted in “property damages” in which $1,296,000 in estimated losses occurred.

The agency said 534 of the accidents were investigated by state police, 513 by local police in the county and 221 went without police investigation of any kind.
