CCTI personnel report
The Joint Operating Committee of the Carbon Career & Technical Institute took the following actions last week:
• Jeffry Deutsch reappointed as the treasurer for the committee. Deutsch was the sole nomination.
The position of treasurer is voted upon every year.
• Robert T. Yurchak, attorney at law from Nesquehoning, reappointed as the Joint Operating Committee Solicitor for the 2025-26 fiscal year at a retainer of $8,000 and $120 per hour for extra work done.
• Salaries for adviser/mentor positions for the 2025-26 school year: DECA adviser, Carly Rinda, $2,300; DECA assistant adviser, Scott Bartholomew, $1,600; HOSA adviser, Donna McClain, $2,300; SkillsUSA adviser, Kevin Kuehner, $2,300; SkillsUSA assistant advisers, Heather Cassidy and Maya Kowalcyk, $1,600 each; eSports adviser, Nate Rinda, $2,300; Interact Rotary Club adviser, Margaret Kalogerakis, $2,300;
National Technical Honor Society adviser, Sue Ann Gerhard $2,300; SADD/Aevidum adviser, Jacob McCloskey, $2,300; senior class adviser, Sandra Kohutka, $2,300; Student Council adviser, $2,300; underclass adviser (freshmen, sophomore, junior — combined), Brandi Schmoyer, $2,300; yearbook adviser, JamiLynn Johannsen, $2,300; student publishing club (newspaper) adviser, $2,300; robotics club adviser, Michael Garrant, $2,300.
• Appointed teacher mentors for the 2025-26 school year: Stephen Nesler (Walter O’Donnell, carpentry instructor); Jeremy Pease (HVAC instructor); Angela Sablich (science teacher); Tammy Marshall (Mark Barthel, graphic design instructor); Michael Wildoner (Grace Crouthamel, English teacher); Philip Strubinger (Larissa Genetti, English teacher).
• Appointed July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026: Tonia Schaeffer as Adult Education GED instructor at $24 per hour; Donna Valent as Adult Education GED aide, $16.50 per hour; Deborah Enterline as GED examiner at $20 per hour
• Accept the letters of resignation from Kevin Sowa, math teacher, effective Aug. 5; and Ashley Little, instructional aide, effective June 30.
• Appointed Kristin Deritis, mental health/behavior assistant for up to 140 days effective Aug. 1, for the 2025-26 school year at a daily rate of $250. This position will be partially funded through the PCCD grant. Diane Hyjurick, student support coordinator, was appointed effective Aug. 22 for the 2025-26 school year. The position is funded through Perkins grant.
• Continue the employment of Angelique Yaich as instructor for the Carbon Alternative High School Diploma Program; 32 hours/week, 200 days, at the rate of $37 per hour. She will contributed toward health care expenses outlined in the teachers’ contract.
