Trinity Happenings

Sunday worship at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, begins at 9:30 a.m. Included in this time is Service of Healing and Blessing of Prayer Shawls. Kathy Long, Licensed Lay Minister, presides. Congregational fellowship follows the worship service in Luther Hall. Please bring a food item to share.

The Service of Healing with prayers are said for those to help ease one’s emotional, physical and spiritual burdens to assist and cope with daily living. Prayer shawls are handmade by volunteers, and are to be used in times of joy or sorrow and ordinary times as a form of comfort during daily faith practices. The prayer shawls are available at no cost and may serve as a gift to a loved one.

Church initiatives:

The Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesdays (and third Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m.) with an outdoor drive-up setting. Residents who reside in the Lehighton Area School District are eligible to receive supplemental food. Participants must remain in their vehicle at time of pick up. Pantry volunteers will assist pedestrians/those not in vehicles.

The Trinity Thrift Store hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesdays; and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Household goods and clothing donations will be accepted during store hours. There is a five bag limit. Use door 2 to bring clothing inside.

No service: There will be no 4 p.m. worship service Saturday, July 5.

Looking ahead: Kathy Long will be installed during the 9:30 a.m. worship service on July 20. Bishop Christopher deForest presides.

VBS: Community Vacation Bible School will be held Aug. 11-13 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., for children age 3 through grade 6. Theme: “Exploring God’s World” through air, water, and earth elements Bible Lessons and activities. Please call the church office in advance to register your child by Aug. 3.

BECC

Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 222 North St., Lehighton, will host Sunday Morning Worship at 10:45 a.m.

• Sunday: 9:30 a.m. Sunday school.

• Tuesday: 6:30 p.m. church council.

• Thursday: Men’s Bible Study, 5 a.m.; Second Blessing Free Clothing Ministry, 6-7:30 p.m.

• July 19: Church picnic at Phifer Dam Pavilion.

• Aug. 8. Evangelical Church Iron Pigs evening at 7:05 p.m. Sign-up is required.

St. John’s

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning, 826 Mahoning Dr. W., Lehighton, will hold a joint worship service at 9 a.m. Sunday at Dinkey Memorial Church, Ashfield.

Community Cupboard: Dinkey Memorial Church in Ashfield has a food cupboard available to those in need who are members of Dinkey Memorial and St. John’s or residents of East Penn Township. The distribution is the third Thursday of every month from 3:30-5 p.m. in Dinkey’s Social Room. For more information, speak with Pastor Tony.

Attention graduates: If you graduated in December or May or will be graduating between now and August, the church would like to know. Include your name, address, name of high school, trade school, college, etc., where you will/have completed your diploma or degree, the type of degree and the plans that you have for the future.

Book club: The next meeting of book club will be held at 6:30 p.m. on July 1. The book that will be discussed is “The Summer Book Club” by Susan Mallery.

Ben Salem UCC

Ben Salem UCC, 1965 Church Hill Road, Lehighton, Summer Worship schedule has started. It includes a 9 a.m. worship service. This will continue until Sept. 7. Sunday School will resume on Sept. 14. Communion service is held the first Sunday of each month.

• Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., Senior Choir Practice.

• Thursday at 6:30 p.m., Handbell Choir Practice; 6-9 p.m. Men’s Bible study, open to men age 18 and up.

Christ Evangelical

Christ Evangelical Free Church, 2420 Blakeslee Blvd., Dr., West in Lehighton holds worship service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Ministries during the week:

Sister Chix, a support group for widows and divorced women, is held the last Sunday of each month at noon. Bring a lunch, but dessert will be provided. To attend, call 570-386-4547. Enter through the lower parking lot entrance.

ESL classes are held at 6:30 p.m. every Monday. To register, call the church office. Enter through the upper parking lot.

Men’s Bible workshop is the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. Lower parking lot entrance.

AWANA — Kids Bible Club is held every Wednesday at 6 p.m. Upper parking lot entrance.

Prayer Shawl Ministry is held the second Saturday of the month from 9-11 a.m.

A Food Pantry takes place the third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m.-noon. Lower parking lot entrance.
