The beach at Mauch Chunk Lake Park is closed after higher than normal bacteria levels were noted during a water sample test.

Staff at the lake announced the closure at noon on Tuesday, stating that the weekly water sample results were above the normal bacteria levels.

Because of this, swimming at this time is prohibited and the beach area is closed.

Park staff will retest the water and will reopen the swimming area once bacteria levels have returned to normal levels.
