Event raises money to help cover cancer treatments
A special day of fundraising was held on Saturday to help raise money for medical expenses for Jennifer Nielsen, a 30-year-old woman battling Stage IV Hodgkin lymphoma. The fundraiser was held at the Mahoning Valley Volunteer Fire Department social hall.
“We are having a fundraiser to raise money to help offset some of the costs of my ongoing cancer treatments,” Nielsen said. “It is three years now that I am going through Stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma.”
The fundraiser included a basket auction featuring 161 baskets, floral arrangements, designer bags, snack baskets, pet supply baskets, and others. The fundraiser also included 52 gift cards as prizes.
There was a section of high-end items including a Blackstone Griddle top, a Keurig coffee machine, and a food processor, to name a few.
There was a bake sale of homemade baked goods, as well as a 50/50 raffle, light refreshments, and Pelican’s Snow Cones.
Jennifer is married to Kyle Nielsen. The couple lives in Saylorsburg with their two daughters, Charlotte and Nora.
She is originally from Lehighton and graduated in 2011 from Lehighton Area High School. She is the daughter of Dirk and Joanie Radler.
The fundraiser was needed because some of Nielsen’s cancer treatments are not covered by insurance. The money raised will help with those treatment costs, as well as travel expenses.
Jennifer Nielsen has a GoFundMe account set up for anyone wishing to help. It can be found at www.GoFundMe.com/f/jen-with-cancer-treatment-costs.
