Carbon buys cameras for maintenance building

Carbon County will be installing several security cameras to its maintenance building.

The board of commissioners ratified a purchase of a security camera system at the maintenance storage facility at the end of the county parking lot in Jim Thorpe at a cost of $939.98, as well as to repair a corner sidewalk in front of the county administration building at a cost of $2,100.

Lisa O’Donnell, the county loss control coordinator, said that the majority of the cost for these purchases will be covered through the loss prevention grant through the county’s insurance carrier. Carbon County had received $30,000 for security projects.

She explained the cameras will provide additional security to the building, since it is located in a dark area.

Commissioner Rocky Ahner commended O’Donnell for her work to get this mostly funded.

This is the second action the county has taken over the last month with regards to beefing up its video security.

Last month, the county approved the purchase of nine cameras installed on the second floor of the train station at a cost of $19,717.70; three outdoor/indoor cameras for the parking booth at a cost of $297; and outdoor wireless radio, antenna and coax cable at a cost of $7,833.92. The three purchases totaled $27,848.62.

Those purchases were covered completely by the loss prevention grant the county had received.

At that time, the commissioners said the action provides the county with better coverage in the event a visitor falls and sues the county; or if there is a break-in at a building.
