PPL plans to build substation in Northern Carbon townships

PPL Electric is working on constructing an electric utility substation yard in Banks, Tresckow and Packer townships.

The Carbon County Commissioners received correspondence from Woodland Design Associates Inc. on the project just off Banks Avenue in McAdoo, traveling northeast through a forested area.

According to the correspondence, PPL is planning to construct the 230kV substation on approximately 12.13 acres of land, as well as overhead utility transmission line connections.

The project also is exempt from county land use ordinances following legal determination in 2016, which states that public utility companies are exempt from local land use regulations, and therefore PPL would be exempt from zoning for the project.
