ON THIS DATE JUNE 4, 1990

Over 200 people turned out to honor retired Coaldale Police Chief John Starry Jr. during the 4th Annual Coaldale Policeman’s Ball held at the town’s company hall.

Starry, who served as chief from 1966-72, received praise from his colleagues for his years of dedicated service to the law enforcement profession.

A graduate of the State Police Academy, in addition to working in Coaldale, he worked for 16 years in Lansford and retired after 25 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Schuylkill County Commissioner Paul Sheers was the guest speaker while gifts were presented to Starry by policemen John Terry and John Yanchura. Police Chief John Tonkin was the master of ceremonies.
