Lehighton Legion to host spring basket social

The American Legion Post 314 of Lehighton will present its fourth annual Spring Basket Social from 4-9 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

There are 313 baskets and about 70 gift cards, said Susan Steager, steward.

Steager said this year’s event will feature many large items, such as a big patio set, 55-inch TV, wooden rockers, and fire pit.

The drawing will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday. There will be a separate drawing for the patio set.

Steager noted “there were so many businesses that donated locally.”

“There were so many businesses that donated locally,” Steager said. “We thank everybody for the great donations we received this year; it’s just made our basket social bigger and better.”

Steager added there will be a bake sale the entire time, and that the kitchen will be open during the basket social.

She said large item tickets cost $1 each; one sheet for $5, or five sheets for $20. The patio set is $1 a ticket.

“All the proceeds go toward our building fund,” Steager said. “Hopefully we can do a little more interior work.”

Steager urged everyone to come out to the event.

“Support our local Legion,” she said. “Not only is it for veterans, but we also help out the Boy Scouts, churches, schools.”
