Garden Club
The Lewistown Valley Garden Club met recently for its April meeting.
Arrangements were judged with the following receiving honors: Evelyn Adams, first place; Sharon Herring, second place; and Pat Wishousky and Norene Rosso, both third place. In the blooming branch category, winners were Cindy Sabol, first place; Evelyn Adams, second place; and Norene Rosso, third place. For specimens, Barb Scott, Georgene Gallagher and Pat Wishousky, all first place for daffodils; and Barb Malewski, second place for grape hyacinth.
The next meeting will be held at noon May 27 at a member’s house for a garden tour. Members with last names A to H will bring a main course dish, and those with I to Z will bring desserts. Arrangements to be judged are any theme using purple, no accessory, specimen, is your choice.

Combined service
A combined Memorial Day Service for Calvary Evangelical Church and Zion Lutheran Church will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Zion Church in Lewistown. The service will include a walk to the cemetery to have salutes that include music and readings. The service will be followed by a meal of sharing covered dish carry-in foods. All are invited to bring food to Zion Social Hall.
Calvary Lewistown
Sunday school for Calvary is at 9:15 a.m. All are welcome. There will be no Sunday or Wednesday evening services.
There will be a 7:15 p.m. May 29 hymn sing and service for Ascension Day at Steigerwalt’s Church of God in New Ringgold.

Tamaqua Seniors
The Tamaqua Area Senior Citizens met on May 15 with 29 members present.
President Jean Machamer opened the meeting. One member was added to the sick list. Three members will celebrate birthdays in May.
The May 22 meeting will be an anniversary celebration and include catering by Hess Catering of Schuylkill Haven.
The seniors meet Thursdays at 1 p.m. at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited.
Cressona Band
The Cressona Band will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. May 28 at the Tamaqua Train Station, 18 N. Railroad St. The concert is sponsored by Shafer’s Pharmacy, and attendees should bring lawn chairs. In the event of rain, the concert will be held at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 150 Pine St., Tamaqua.
St. Peter’s West Penn
The Sunday worship service at St. Peter’s Church of West Penn will be held at 9 a.m. followed by Sunday school at 10:15 a.m. A Memorial Day service will be held at 10:45 a.m. at Zion’s Stone Church. Bring lawn chairs. Senior Sunday graduate information is due Sunday.
