Tamaqua School District details graduation plans

Tamaqua Area School Board on Tuesday approved the 2025 graduation list as the school year winds down.

Superintendent Ray Kinder noted that there were less than a dozen class days left in the school year with the last day of classes on May 29, which is also graduation.

He welcomed board members to attend a baccalaureate service Sunday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, and made note of those planning to attend graduation.

Kinder also noted that Memorial Day is May 26, and there are no classes that day.

He also acknowledged the district’s safety report, which Assistant Superintendent Stephen Toth reviewed with the board during the committee meetings before the board’s meeting.

One area highlighted was an incident in March, when the high school office received a “disturbing” phone call and prompted a lockdown, large police presence at the school and a controlled, monitored dismissal.

This swatting incident remains under investigation, Toth said, and the district hopes to have and share those details in the future.
