A lot at a longtime car wash in the west end section of Palmerton could be converted into self-storage units.

Borough council on a 6-0 vote recently approved the planning commission’s recommendation regarding the Mauch Chunk Road car wash subdivision and land development plan.

After the meeting, borough Manager Autumn Canfield said the owner is listed as Mauch Chunk Wash & Storage LLC, and added the plan indicates self-storage units on one of the lots to be created.

Canfield said the plans were submitted by Lehigh Engineering Associates Inc. and noted the plans are for a subdivision to divide the lot into two parcels.

She said that at this time the car wash on the property is not in use.

Councilman William Gallagher was absent.
