Lehighton Boys and Girls Band concert inspired by Dr. Seuss

The Lehighton Boys and Girls Band will present its spring concert “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” at 1 p.m. Saturday at the historic Boys and Girls Band Hall, 197 N. Sixth St., Lehighton.

Under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley, this year’s theme takes inspiration from the beloved Dr. Seuss book, celebrating the many “places” music can take us — emotionally, imaginatively, and even geographically.

The concert features a wide-ranging program with selections that evoke journeys, destinations and adventure. Admission is free, and all are welcome.

Performers range from fourth to 12th grade, showcasing the incredible growth and talent of the band’s young musicians. The concert will feature the following selections:

“Beyond the Seven Hills” — Michael Sweeney; “Jetstream” — Chattaway; “Somewhere Out There” (from an American Tail) — arranged by. Clark; “Sousa Spectacular” — medley of marches, arranged by. Jack O’Reilly; “Huntington Overture” — Eric Osterling; “If” (made popular by Bread) — arranged by. Eric Osterling; “Galactic Episode” — Jack O’Reilly; “Wipe Out” — arranged by. Michael Sweeney; “I Like Mountain Music” — arranged by. Norred; “Over the Rainbow” (from The Wizard of Oz) — arranged by. Michael Sweeney; “The Magnificent Seven” — arranged by. Michael Sweeney; and “Safari” — John Ployhar

The concert is free to the public, and a freewill donation will be accepted during the event to help support the band’s programs.

The Lehighton Boys and Girls Band offers private and group music lessons at a reasonable cost, providing musical opportunities to youth in the region.
