Tamaqua police charge neighbors after dispute

Tamaqua police charged neighbors Christopher Anderson, 56, and Stephen Young, 68, with disorderly conduct and harassment after an altercation at 4:14 p.m. May 3.

Police also charged another neighbor, Joseph Salla, 71, who threatened Young after the fight he had with Anderson.

Police said they were dispatched to the 200 block of Owl Creek Road for a dispute among neighbors.

Upon arrival, police found several residents, including Anderson and Young, standing on the roadway, arguing and pointing fingers at one another.

Police viewed surveillance videos leading up to the fight, and found that Anderson was mowing his grass near the property line between his land and Young’s land. At one point, Anderson waves “sarcastically” waving in the direction of Young’s porch.

In another video, police said, Young walked in front of the Anderson property and took photos of property lines. While walking back toward his residence, Anderson is spotted clapping and taunting Young, police said.

Soon after, police said the video shows Anderson and Young approaching each other, and pushing each other near the road. At one point, Young punched Anderson, police said.

Soon after that fight, video shows Salla and Young arguing about the previous dispute that Young had with Anderson. Salla is heard saying that he will kill Young and bury him 6 feet under. Police said video shows Salla running onto Young’s property and spitting in his face. Police said Young then pushed Salla and Salla punched him in the face before another neighbor breaks up the fight.

Police charged Salla with terroristic threats and defiant trespass.

Police said they have received several calls about the neighbors’ dispute over the past few years. Police said it has become a persistent problem that is escalating to physical contact among the neighbors involved.
