Colonial, Schuylkill playoffs are set
The schedules for the Colonial and Schuylkill League baseball and softball playoffs have been released.
Seven Times News area teams will be participating in the two league’s postseason.
Both clubs from Tamaqua qualified in the Schuylkill League, as did the teams from Palmerton and Northwestern in the Colonial. Northern Lehigh’s softball squad also made the CL playoffs.
Baseball and softball playoffs in the Colonial League begin this afternoon.
A doubleheader involving local softball teams will take place at Pates Park with seventh-seeded Palmerton meeting No. 2 Palisades at 1 p.m. and top-seeded Northwestern facing No. 8 Bangor at 3:30 p.m. in quarterfinal action. The No. 6 Bulldogs will also travel to third-seeded Pen Argyl for a 3 p.m. matchup.
The semifinals will be played Tuesday at Pates Park.
Northwestern and Palmerton will also have their baseball teams in action today in quarterfinal play. The Tigers, seeded second, host No. 7 Bangor at 3 p.m. while the fourth-seeded Blue Bombers entertain No. 5 Salisbury at 4 p.m.
The winners advance to the semifinals on Monday, which will be played at Easton or Parkland.
A late-season hot stretch allowed Tamaqua’s softball team to make the Schuylkill playoffs. The Blue Raiders, the third seed out of Division 1, take on Tri-Valley in a quarterfinal contest at Blue Mountain on Monday at 4 p.m. A victory would send Tamaqua into the semifinal round to play Division 1 champion North Schuylkill on Tuesday, also at Blue Mountain’s Patton Field.
The Blue Raider baseball squad earned the Division 1 title and received a bye in the quarterfinal round. The Raiders will wait to meet the winner of Shenandoah Valley and Blue Mountain. That semifinal contest will take place Tuesday at Pine Grove’s Stump Stadium.
In addition to these league playoffs, Pleasant Valley’s softball team also made the EPC playoffs but fell to Emmaus in the quarterfinals. The Bears’ girls lacrosse team, however, defeated Nazareth in the semifinals and will play for the conference title on Tuesday against Emmaus.
