Suspect named in murder of Schuylkill woman
A Hazleton man is wanted for the murder of a woman whose body was found on fire on a roadside last weekend.
Terrence Leroy Ray, 55, of Muir Avenue, is charged with criminal homicide, abuse of corpse and tampering with evidence in the death of 39-year-old Jessica Lockwood.
Ray remains at large, Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce said during a press conference Monday, a week and a day after Lockwood’s body was discovered on fire along Club 40 Road.
Ray is considered dangerous and is believed to have fled Luzerne County.
Lockwood was reported missing April 26, the day before her body was found, when she failed to pick up her son.
Her family tracked and found her cellphone along Route 424 in Hazleton and turned it over to state police, who found text messages indicating she was meeting “Og,” who was later identified as Ray, court papers said.
Lockwood had developed a substance abuse disorder following neck surgeries and was meeting Ray to obtain a prescription pain medication, Sanguedolce said.
Troopers found her vehicle the night of April 26 near Ray’s Muir Avenue home, which Hazleton police searched the day Lockwood’s body was found.
Inside the home, police found a large pool of blood, a blood trail through the home, evidence of attempts to clean up, a 9 mm gun, a shell casing, blood in a trash can and yard and a gold earring that was missing from Lockwood’s body, court papers said.
Hazleton police, who use a camera detection system throughout the city, identified Ray’s vehicle in the area of where Lockwood’s phone was found, and on Club 40 Road immediately before city firefighters were dispatched for a reported mannequin on fire.
Hazleton firefighters, instead, found Lockwood’s body. Lockwood died from blunt force trauma and a gunshot wound, investigators said.
The investigation remains active and ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Hazleton detective’s tip line at 570-450-2080 or contact them through the city police department’s Crimewatch pages.
