Two retaining wall maintenance projects could be on the horizon for Jim Thorpe borough.
Council members on Thursday night examined proposals for wall repairs on Packer Hill Road and Hill Road totaling $1,900 and $7,800 respectively.
According to officials, both projects fall within the borough’s budget for the year.
The first proposal, presented by Lienhard Masonry, focuses on the Kemmerer Park side of a retaining wall located along Packer Hill Road.
The wall, Councilman Mike Yeastedt said during Thursday’s workshop, has been compromised by vegetation.
“It has a lot of vines growing out of it,” he said. “It’s displacing rocks, the roots are pushing out.”
The proposed solution would provide “two days of labor to fill in as much as he possibly can on the wall trying to start getting that wall cleaned up.”
Yeastedt emphasized that while the work won’t fully complete the project, it will begin addressing the damage.
The second Lienhard proposal involves the right hand side of the Hill Road area going up and carries a price tag of $7,800. This project will address stormwater management issues.
“It’s the drainage area,” Yeastedt said. “There are some sections up there where the concrete — you could call it a curb — is broken out. Next to the curb is where the stormwater area is. So this would replace those broken sections.”
Both retaining wall projects were recommended for inclusion on the council’s action agenda on Thursday night.
