O’Pake seeking reelection as district attorney in Schuylkill

Michael A. O’Pake, a Republican, is seeking reelection to a third term as Schuylkill County district attorney.

First elected in 2017 and reelected in 2021, O’Pake began serving the public in 1992 as an assistant district attorney.

He is respected across the county’s law enforcement community and is endorsed by the Philip C. Melley Memorial Lodge #65 of the Pennsylvania State Police and the Schuylkill County Chiefs of Police Association.

O’Pake brings unmatched experience, having personally tried over 125 criminal jury trials.

As district attorney, he has successfully prosecuted three first degree murder cases, sending those defendants to prison for life.

Under his leadership, the county recorded its largest drug bust, seizing over $1 million in illegal drugs.

His office has also confiscated more than $600,000 in drug money, using it to fund further prosecutions.

He has also focused on improving the experience for victims of crime. Before his tenure, criminal cases often took over a year to resolve.

Now, most are concluded within six to seven months, bringing quicker closure to victims and accountability for offenders.

O’Pake helped lead efforts to establish a Wellness Court in Schuylkill County.

The new initiative will offer mental health treatment programs to eligible individuals, including a Veterans Treatment Track tailored to the unique needs of military veterans.

O’Pake and his office are central to implementing this program.

Born and raised in Mahanoy City, O’Pake continues to live and work in Schuylkill County.

He resides in Norwegian Township with his wife, Jeanette. They have a son, Michael, who lives in Exton, and a daughter, Caleigh, a law student at Villanova University.

O’Pake has previously served as solicitor for several local school districts and municipalities, including North Schuylkill, Shenandoah Valley, St. Clair Area, and the Borough of Mahanoy City.

He is a member of the Schuylkill County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, NRA and Frackville Elks Lodge, and serves on the executive committee of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association.
