Track roundup: Results from April 29

Northwestern locked up the Colonial League West Division crown Tuesday by sweeping Lehighton in New Tripoli, with the Tigers taking the boys meet and the girls earning a victory to claim a share of the division title with the Indians. Elsewhere, Tamaqua, Jim Thorpe, and Palmerton all recorded sweeps, while Marian Catholic and Weatherly turned in strong efforts in a Schuylkill League tri-meet at Schuylkill Haven.

Lehighton-Northwestern

Northwestern completed a critical Colonial League sweep of visiting Lehighton.

The Tigers clinched the Dual Meet West Division title with an 82-69 win in the boys meet, while the Lady Tigers handed the Lady Indians their first division loss of the season with a 95-55 victory. As a result, both teams will share the West Division title as co-champions.

Greyson Wellings (800, 1600) and Shane Leh (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) led the way for Northwestern with multiple individual wins. Rosalia Nestor added victories in both the 800 and 1600 for the girls.

For Lehighton, Bodie Hawk (shot put, discus) and Lilyanna Shapiro (200, 400) each earned a pair of firsts to highlight the Indians’ effort.

N. Lehigh-Palmerton

Palmerton swept Northern Lehigh in a Colonial League meet.

The Blue Bomber girls posted a 102-47 win, while the boys earned a 90.5-59.5 victory.

Nataly Walters led the way for Palmerton’s girls, winning the 100, long jump and triple jump. Ruby Walters swept the 100 and 300 hurdles, and Rylee Roman added a first-place finish in the pole vault.

Northern Lehigh’s Katelynn Barthold earned a win in the 400 and placed in the long jump, while Mikayla Gordon took the 800 and Anna Trelease swept the throws (shot put, discus, javelin) for the Bulldogs.

On the boys side, Connor Hibell led Palmerton with wins in the 800, 1600 and 3200. Jake Rutkowitz (110 hurdles, long jump), Ryan Burkett (discus, javelin), and Vincent Taglieri (triple jump) also won events for the Bombers.

Keith Lectora powered Northern Lehigh with wins in the 100 and 200, while Cayden Anglin added a victory in the 300 hurdles. The Bulldogs also won both the 400 and 1600 relays.

Jim Thorpe-Catasauqua

Jim Thorpe picked up a Colonial League sweep on the road, topping Catasauqua in both the boys and girls meets.

The Olympians earned an 86-62 victory on the boys side, while the Lady Olympians secured an 83-60 win in the girls meet.

Stacy Bos starred for Jim Thorpe, winning the 800, 1600 and 3200 to sweep the distance events. She was joined by teammates Vanessa Sadler (shot put, discus) and Aubrey Holland (high jump, pole vault), who also posted multiple individual victories.

On the boys side, Samuel Epps (400, high jump) and Gavin Strohl (shot put, discus) each picked up a pair of first-place finishes to help lead the way.

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Tamaqua turned in a dominant showing with a sweep of Pine Grove in Schuylkill League action.

The Blue Raiders rolled to a 108-33 win on the boys side behind a deep and balanced effort that included multiple individual victories from Luis Sanchez, Aidan Elston, and Anthony Marchetti. Sanchez won the 400 and anchored the winning 1600 relay, while Elston captured the 1600 and contributed to both the 3200 and 1600 relays. Marchetti swept the 1600 and 3200.

Tamaqua also saw strong performances in the hurdles from Gio Rivera-Poke and Luis Tejada, and a sweep in the throws led by Thomas Rivera in the shot put and Jacob Hehn in the discus. Scott Case paced the jumps with firsts in the triple jump and high jump.

The Raider girls posted a 93-45 victory, led by Lucia DeMarco, who won the 400 and anchored the 1600 relay. Madelyn Schaefer (800), Kimmy Rudy (1600), and Isabella Jones (3200) swept the distance events, while Peyton Selby added a win in the 100 hurdles.

In the field, Samantha Plasha continued her strong season by winning the long jump and tying for first in the high jump, while Cecilia Ulicny won the triple jump and added a runner-up finish in the long jump. Leah Black and Cadance Fannock helped the Raiders sweep the top three spots in the discus.

Sch. Haven

Marian Catholic earned a split in a Schuylkill League tri-meet at Schuylkill Haven, topping Weatherly while falling to the host Hurricanes in both the boys and girls competitions.

The Fillies were dominant in a 134-5 victory over the Wreckers and had several standout efforts despite an 82-59 loss to Haven. Alizabeth Pikitus led the way for Marian with a win in the 200 and a leg on the winning 4x100 relay team. Olivia Thomas earned first in the shot put, and added top-three finishes in both the discus and javelin. Gabrielle Osenbach took the long jump, and Teaghan Biros finished second in the 800, 1600 and 3200. Kali Grochowski and Adalyn Marek each cleared 4-8 to share top honors in the high jump.

Weatherly’s Kelly Reiner delivered the program’s lone win on the girls side with a first-place finish in the javelin thanks to a toss of 94-9.

In the boys meet, Marian earned an 87.5-16.5 win over Weatherly, but fell 86-54 to Schuylkill Haven. James Gelatko claimed wins in the 800 and 1600, while Wade Eroh took the 3200. Jacob Tom earned first in the long jump, and Michael Johnson won the 300 hurdles and placed third in the 110s. The Colts also won the 4x400 relay.

Weatherly’s Alex Best led the Wreckers with a first-place finish in the 1600 and a second in the 3200. Teammate Isaiah Williams added a third in the 800, while Vincent Paisley placed third in the javelin with a throw of 123-0.
