Lansford man, 68, facing child pornography charges
A 68-year-old man is faces child pornography and other charges following a cyber tip regarding exploitive material uploaded from an account located in Lansford.
Gerry Evans, of East Snyder Avenue, Lansford, was arraigned Thursday by District Judge Beth Dodson on charges of child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility.
He was released on $25,000 unsecured bail and will appear for a preliminary hearing on May 7 before Dodson.
According to court papers, state police received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding an image on an online storage service.
The image shows a nude girl between 15 and 17 years old, court papers said.
Investigators linked the Amazon Photo cloud service account to Evans and contacted him at his home.
Evans told them that he had been in contact with underage women on Facebook Messenger and Telegram and exchanged photos with them on his cellular phone, court papers said. The images were of clothed females between 12 and 17 years old, he said.
Evans gave investigators permission to look at his phone, and he told them that he had been in contact with girls online that he believed to be minors, ages 15 to 17, and he paid for some of the images with gift cards, court papers said.
Evans also told them that he was subject of a child pornography possession case in Palmerton last year, and he had similar clothed photos of underage females on his phone, and no criminal charges were filed.
Investigators observed child exploitative material of females, possibly ages 10 to 15, posing provocatively in the phone’s trash can, folders with female names, additional images and multiple Facebook Messenger chats and Telegram message threads with suspected underage females discussing sexual acts, court papers said.
Investigators told Evans that they would be seizing his phone pending a forensic examination, and secured a search warrant for the phone.
Investigators found six images/videos of child sexual abuse material and more than 6,000 child exploitative images, as well as child sex solicitation communications.
