Local Roundup: Results from April 16

Lehighton’s baseball team clinched a district playoff berth with a win on Wednesday, while Weatherly snapped a long losing streak.

BASEBALL

Lehighton-Catasauqua

A big offensive game from Cody Snyder helped Lehighton gain a 7-4 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua and clinch a district playoff berth.

Snyder finished 3-for-3 with a homer, four runs scored and two RBIs.

Jayse Lawrence added a pair of hits for the Indians, who jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead, including a double and a run scored.

Winning pitcher Cole Dietz allowed just one earned run and one walk while striking out four in five innings of work. Dietz also finished with three RBIs at the plate.

For the winless Roughies, Matt Fotta and Reese Savercool both had two hits.

Weston Church collected four hits and knocked in three runs, and Northwestern pulled away late to claim an 11-4 Colonial League victory over Palisades.

Church had one of four doubles hit by the Tigers, who scored seven runs over the final two innings to break open what was a 4-4 tie game.

Cannon Fitch added two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the winners, while Jake Carson finished with a pair of hits — one a double.

Northwestern, which has won five straight, also received a hit and two RBIs from Josh Farber, and a hit and two runs from Eli Zimmerman.

Northern Lehigh suffered another close loss as Southern Lehigh used a three-run sixth inning to help gain an 8-6 Colonial League victory.

MJ Edwards and Mason Schwartz both had a hit and two RBI for the Spartans, while Jeremy Yeakel-Mendez added a hit and two runs.

For the Bulldogs, who have lost six games by three runs or less, Connor Simms had two hits and scored three runs. Braedon Dougherty collected a pair of hits and knocked in a run, while Coy Daubert added a hit and two RBIs.

Another dominating performance by Cole Hubert resulted in Saucon Valley gaining an 11-1 Colonial League win over Jim Thorpe.

Hubert allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out 12. He also helped his own cause with a hit, two runs and two RBIs.

The Panthers also received a hit and two RBIs from Matt Chaffier, while Michael Antignani accounted for the Olympians’ only hit.

Joey Esposito had a big day at the plate to help Weatherly roll past Lincoln Leadership Academy, 16-4, and end a nine-game losing streak.

Esposito finished 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and four RBIs.

Michael Davies added a hit, a pair of runs and two RBIs for the Wreckers, who exploded for 12 runs in the first inning. Raymond Montz chipped in with a hit and three runs, while Kolton Reiner finished with a hit, two runs and a pair of RBIs.

Hailey Barry tossed a two-hitter, as Palmerton ran away with an 11-1 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Barry struck out 12 Falcons, walked none, and allowed just a single run in the sixth inning.

Mikayla Pengelly was a triple shy of the cycle, as the Bombers’ leadoff hitter recorded a single, double, home run and knocked in five.

Mackenzie Farber added multiple hits for the Bombers, as she finished with two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Janessa Prudente delivered a grand slam during the big first frame. Prudente also finished with two walks and three runs scored.

Isabella D’Ancona chipped in with a single, double, three runs scored and an RBI for the Panthers, while Kyla McQuillen added a single, double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Eliza Sullivan led the way for the winners, as she finished with two singles, a double, two runs scored and four RBIs.

Madison Schwartz paced the Olympians, as she crossed home plate with her team’s only run scored and registered a triple.

Teammate Hannah Zacharias chipped in with the lone other base hit.

Demi Lewis was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, as the Spartans’ cleanup hitter finished with three singles, a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.

For the Bulldogs, Emily Gad went 2-for-3 with two singles and three RBIs.

Nolehi’s Grace Bauer also recorded a single, double and two runs scored.

Pleasant Valley and Pocono Mountain East split their Eastern Pennsylvania Conference meet.

The Bears won the boys competition 76-56, while the Cards took the girls decision by an 88-44 score.

PV’s James Morton won two events (400, 800) as the Bears gained a 59-28 advantage on the track, including a sweep of the 200.

In the girls meet, Danielle Boland registered a pair of wins (400, 800) for Pleasant Valley.
