Northern Valley Emergency Medical Services has applied for a grant for various equipment.
Kristie Wentling, executive director, Northern Valley Emergency Medical Services, told Walnutport Borough Council on Thursday that the organization submitted a statewide Local Share Account grant application.
Wentling said the grant, in the amount of $73,221 would be for computers, presentation equipment and a building generator, and added that the grant is pending review.
She noted that NOVA previously received a grant from the Local Share Account funds — Northampton and Lehigh counties, for $44,406 last year for powered stair chairs.
However, Wentling said there is a $29,542 shortfall, and that NOVA just applied for the difference to the Christopher & Dana Reeves Foundation. The request is pending review.
She said that NOVA is seeking a full-time paramedic, and also has openings for part-time paramedics.
Wentling also mentioned that Lehigh County is upgrading the radio system and that the upgrade requires all users to have P25 radios, which includes all of fire, police and EMS.
She said NOVA’s radios meet the requirements, but will need to be reprogrammed at a cost of $72,379.
