The Tamaqua Area School Board approved a $1.45 million contract for a new roof for the district’s high school on Tuesday.
The district received a proposal from Weatherproofing Technologies Inc./Tremco with a base bid of $1,332,462.20 and an alternate bid for additional work of $132,497.66.
The board approved both proposals for the roof work, and repairs or replacement of a knee wall on the perimeter of the roof.
The district received a $450,000 grant through the state Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program for the roof project, which was a planned capital improvement project for the district.
The work comes with a 25-year warranty, and Tremco will send personnel at no cost to perform maintenance, Ken Dunkelberger, chief operations officer, had told the board.
