Inmate faces assault charges

An inmate at the Carbon County Correctional Facility faces multiple charges after two incidents with guards last month.

Michael Allen, 26, was charged with aggravated assault, two felony counts; assault by prisoner, simple assault and aggravated harassment in two criminal complaints.

He was arraigned by District Judge Beth Dodson, who set bail at $75,000 and $25,000 in the cases against Allen.

According to court papers, Allen was being returned to his cell following a search on Oct. 21, when he grabbed the cell door and pushed it shut on a corrections officer’s arm. The officer was sent for treatment and lost two days of work.

Allen was not interviewed due to his violent tendencies, and video footage confirmed the events the warden relayed to county detectives.

On Oct. 28, Allen was again returning to his cell when he spit on an officer removing his shackles, court papers said. Video confirmed the incident.
