Edwin Gerhard, 73, of Weatherly, was cited by borough police on summary charges of public drunkenness and having an open container of alcohol after police were called to an incident on Sept. 20 at Woods Ice Cream in the borough.

Police said witnesses told them Gerhard appeared intoxicated and was attempting to light items on fire near the establishment.

When Officer Nico Palermo arrived on the scene, he saw Gerhard with an open container of alcohol, and the man had a strong odor of alcohol, according to police.

Gerhard told Palermo that he had consumed several cups of beer and was lighting papers on fire, the officer said.

Witnesses said they were concerned for the safety of children due to Gerhard’s actions.
