Shower of Roses event set for Nesquehoning
The annual Shower of Roses will grace the Nesquehoning community on Sunday.
The celebration, which has been observed for decades, will begin at 11 a.m. with a spaghetti dinner and food sale on the grounds of Madonna Hall, located behind the Shrine of St. Therese of Lisieux at 1 E. Garibaldi Ave. in the New Columbus section of Nesquehoning.
A celebratory Mass will take place at 1 p.m. and will include the crowning of the Rose Queen.
The 2024 Rose Queen is Amelia Degler, and her Rose Court includes: October and Emerald Drumheller; Giavanna, Paige and Sarah Larry; and Quinn McGory.
A procession through the streets of New Columbus will begin at 2:45 p.m., followed by the recitation of the rosary at 3:30 p.m. and novena/benediction, followed by the distribution of roses at 4 p.m.
Sheree Strauss, co-director of the shrine, said that roses will no longer be dropped from a helicopter.
In preparation of the event, a St. Therese novena will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, as well as at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the shrine.
