Polk hears zoning request for expansion

Polk Township held a zoning hearing Monday for Gold Coast Ingredients, 1127 Interchange Road.

The property owners submitted a request for a zoning change from R-3 to commercial for 2 acres that a lot line adjustment had been completed.

The business already has 7 existing acres in a commercial district.

Gold Coast officials explained that they need space for parking and warehousing, and that it is hard for trucks to turn around in the current lot.

The business manufactures ingredients and flavors on a wholesale level to sell to food companies, according to its website.

The warehouse would be for storage only.

Zoning Officer Tracy Herman asked if any complaints have been made about this request by neighboring properties.

No complaints have been made.

The plan is still being reviewed by the Monroe County Planning Commission.

Township Attorney James Fareri said that a decision will be rendered during the Oct. 28 supervisors meeting.
