Thorpe sponsoring Asa Packer logo contest

Jim Thorpe borough is inviting local high school students to showcase their creativity in a new logo design contest for the historic Asa Packer Mansion.

Open to all students attending Jim Thorpe Area High School and Carbon Career and Technical Institute, the contest encourages participants to create an original logo that will represent the mansion across various platforms, including official letterheads, websites, social media and clothing.

“The logo must feature a reference to the Asa Packer Mansion and should be the student’s original work,” borough officials said in an announcement about the contest. “While the design can include colors, participants are encouraged to keep it simple and recognizable, even when scaled down to smaller sizes. Submissions can be digital, but hand drawings or photography elements can also be scanned and incorporated into the logo.”

The borough has set specific technical guidelines: digital files should be submitted in .jpg or .pdf formats and must be at least 3 inches by 3 inches in size.

Submissions are due by Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. Students can submit their entries electronically via email to secretary@jtborough.org or by mailing their unfolded entries to the Borough of Jim Thorpe’s administrative office at 101 E. 10th St., Jim Thorpe, PA 18229. In-person submissions are also accepted during the office’s working hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Jim Thorpe Borough Council and the Asa Packer Mansion Committee will choose the winning design.

“Entries will be evaluated based on visual appeal, adherence to the contest’s theme, quality of design, and ease of reproduction,” the contest announcement states. “The chosen logo will become the property of the borough, and the designer will be required to assign copyright to the borough.”

The winner will receive a $100 cash prize and a T-shirt or hoodie featuring their logo.
