Lehighton crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Rex W. McFarland, 59, of Nesquehoning, was injured in a motorcycle crash at 3:54 a.m. Aug. 22 on North First Street in Lehighton.
Police said he was operating a 2003 Honda VT750 southbound when a deer ran into the roadway and his motorcycle struck the animal.
McFarland did not require transport, police said. Lehighton Ambulance Association personnel responded to the crash.
• A 16-year-old Palmerton boy escaped injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 10 p.m. Aug. 21 on Oak Street in Towamensing Township.
Police said he was operating a 2008 Honda Civic eastbound and was traveling too fast for conditions when he lost control of the car, which left the road, hit a tree and then crossed over the westbound lane before coming to a stop.
The teen returned home without reporting the crash, police said.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
The teen was cited, police said.
• Valmir Tahiri, 53, of the Bronx, New York, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and cited after a one-vehicle crash at 1:04 p.m. Aug. 9 on Weir Mountain Road, Eldred Township.
Police said Tahiri was transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley MedEvac to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg, for treatment.
Tahiri was driving a 2020 Kia Sportage eastbound and was traveling too fast for conditions when the vehicle crossed the westbound lane and the left the road, hitting a utility pole, police said.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
