Tamaqua police charged a borough man with strangulation, simple assault and harassment following a domestic incident at 11:38 a.m. July 18.
Alex Clark, 27, was arraigned before Tamaqua Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer on the charges. He was released on $25,000 unsecured bail.
According to police, a woman said that she and Clark got into an argument, and Clark pushed her onto a bed. She told police that Clark got on top of her and that she could not breathe. Police said she also said that Clark put his hand over her mouth, which caused her to bite her lip. She told police that everything happened while she was holding a baby.
Police said they saw fresh marks on the woman’s neck and lip.
Officers interviewed Clark, who gave a statement saying that the woman pushed him and that her injuries were self-inflicted, according to police.
