Franklin fire company to host annual block party

The 43rd annual Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 Block Party will take place Friday and Saturday at the fire department on Fairyland Road.

Chris Lilly, president of the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, said the event is one of the highest fundraisers.

“We have a lot of fundraisers, so we try to keep as many things going as we can,” Lilly said. “It is one of our largest fundraisers.”

Lilly said St. Luke’s University Health Network is sponsoring the fireworks.

“It’s to get people in there, so come for a half an hour and buy an ice cream, buy a steak sandwich,” she said. “In addition to thanking the community for their support all year long.”

Lilly said the event starts at 4 p.m. both days, with a menu that includes steak sandwiches, cheesesteaks, sausage sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, french fries, pierogies, hamburger barbecue, filling and beverages.

Lilly said Friday will have seafood dinners from 4-7 p.m. (or until sold out), along with music from 6-10 p.m. by SteelCreek Band.

Dinners include baked haddock, fried haddock, shrimp, or chicken fingers, with a choice of french fries or filling.

On Saturday, Mystery City will perform from 6-10 p.m. Garden Tractor Pulls will be held from 7-10 p.m. The fireworks spectacular by Pyro Joe will follow at around 10:30 p.m., though guests are asked to arrive early.

There will be a bounce house, kids games (duck pond, milk can toss, fish cups), and Todd Amos Novelties will be there with various gifts and activities for the kids.

Lilly noted they will have outside vendors with their our own hamburgers and cheeseburgers outside, along with waffles and ice cream, while the 4-H Club will help them out with funnel cakes, Hoff’s Kettle Corn, Super Soft Ice Cream, and Pocono Potato Chip Company.

She said there will also be adult games (Hi Striker, Big Six Wheel), rip opens, and the dime toss. There will also be a Beer Garden.

Inside, Lilly said they will have a giant basket raffle, bake sale, big item raffles (there will be three larger items for chance, one donated by Marzen Feed & Hardware, one by Rocky Ahner, and one by a friend of the fire company), money raffle, family fun raffle, money tree, barrel of money, bingo, and Jenny’s Sweets, along with produce from Seltzers.

The Franklin Township Lions Club will also be collecting for Wreaths Across America.

Lilly said the funds from the Block Party will go toward fire company projects (bucket donations that are collected will go toward the fire truck fund).

“We’d like everybody to come out and support us and have a good time,” she said.
