A Lansford woman faces theft and other charges after taking her mother’s debit card and food stamp card.
Maria Gelsomina Samhoury Alfeo, 34, of East Abbott Street, was arraigned by District Judge William Kissner Wednesday evening on charges of theft and access device issued to another who did not authorize use.
Alfeo was jailed in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $3,120 bail.
According to court papers, Alfeo took her mother’s debit and food stamp cards three months ago and wouldn’t give them back. The amount taken totaled $3,120. The mother receives $600 a month in food stamps.
When asked why she didn’t report the theft sooner, the mother explained that her daughter abused her, would take her phone and kept her locked in a room when she was around, court papers said.
She said she was afraid to report her daughter because she had threatened her in the past, court papers said. The mother did secure a protection from abuse order against her daughter, Alfeo, court papers said.
Police reviewed recent transactions at the Turkey Hill in Nesquehoning, and identified Alfeo as the person using the card to buy chocolate milk, cigarettes and a cigar.
She also bought gas immediately prior, court papers said.
