Bowmanstown officials argue about salary hike

Discussion on an increase for its public works supervisor turned heated at Tuesday’s Bowmanstown Borough Council meeting.

Ultimately, council on a 5-2 vote agreed to increase the hourly rate for Chris Bixler from $27.18 to $27.66 an hour.

Before the vote, Councilman Rob Moyer said he didn’t recall seeing the step plan for this year.

“This is news to me,” Moyer said. “This is the first time I’m seeing this; I haven’t seen this until today.”

Councilwoman Kara Scott said she hadn’t seen it either.

But, Councilman Darren Thomas contended that he previously shared the information with all of council.

Moyer said that while council has talked about the step program, “I’ve never seen it,” and asked council to table the motion.

However, Thomas made the motion which passed with Moyer and Scott opposed.

After the vote, Moyer said that while he believes “the concept’s great,” he’d like to see hard numbers.

Scott said she also didn’t agree with the manner in which it was handled.

“It seems very back door to me,” Scott said.

Moyer reiterated that the next time this comes up, he would like to see hard and concrete numbers.
