Penn Forest hosts community day, fireworks
Penn Forest Recreational Park along Route 903 will come alive Saturday during the township’s second “Community Day and Fireworks Show” featuring activities, entertainment, and an evening-ending fireworks display.
Christian Bartulovich, a Penn Forest Township supervisor and one of the event’s organizers, said festivities will run from 5-10 p.m. and include a band, bounce houses and inflatable activities, and food vendors.
“I think it’s going to be a wonderful day and we’re anticipating a great turnout, maybe even a little bigger than last year,” Bartulovich said. “The fireworks show will begin just after dusk. I’m not a fireworks expert, but I think they are planning a little bigger show this year as well.”
Penn Forest started its fireworks event last year following the end of a longtime traditional show in Jim Thorpe Borough each July.
“We have a super active, fantastic group of volunteers who make up the park committee,” Bartulovich said. “They generate these ideas for events, and this ended up being one of them.”
Last year’s inaugural event was a tremendous success, he added, drawing a large crowd and receiving rave reviews. Organizers are hopeful that this year’s Community Day will attract even more attendees.
“Ultimately, we are given quite the opportunity with the park that we have,” Bartulovich said. “We want to make sure that we’re utilizing that to the fullest. It’s great to get everybody out there at the same time, talking to your neighbors that you might not see on a given day, and just enjoying the weather.”
In addition to the Community Day festivities, the park has a series of other events lined up. The next big event will be a “Movie in the Park” on July 19, when a large projector screen will be set up on the baseball backstop for an outdoor film.
Bartulovich said anyone looking to keep up to date on the events could visit the park’s Facebook page.
