Lehighton Borough Council
Lehighton Borough Council took the following action on Monday:
• Approved Todd Mason’s release of the letter of credit in the amount of $12,794.
• Announced the anticipated sale of three borough properties on Millway Street: Parcel 28 - V7, $5,500; Parcel 28 - V8, $2,000; and Parcel 28 - V9, $2,500; for a total of $10,000.
• Hired Nick Steigerwalt for public works maintenance operator vacancy, pending pre-employment screening. His salary, per the union contract, will be 90% of the salary for a maintenance operator, which begins at $23.45 an hour.
• Accepted a letter of resignation from Richard Andrews, borough mechanic. The borough will advertise for an additional public works employee.
• Agreed to advertise for an additional public works employee; specifically one with a diesel mechanic background.
• Tabled a request by the D & L National Heritage Corridor Inc. to mark Lehigh Drive and the Walking Trail with D & L Trail painted logos.
• Appointed Kenneth Sterling to Lehighton fire police.
• Appointed Steven Hawk as new borough delegate, and David Zimmerman as new alternate delegate for the Carbon County Council of Governments.
• Appointed Alexander Sebelin to join the Lehighton Junior Councilperson program.
• Agreed to allow an animal rescue to bring pets in the borough park for Spellbinding Saturday.
• Adopted a resolution agreement for evacuation and sheltering facilities with Lehighton Area School District.
• Approved additional Baer Memorial Pool employees for the 2024 season.
