Lehigh River Sojourn

The Wildlands Conservancy sponsored The Lehigh River Sojourn this weekend. The four-day journey started at Lehigh Gorge and ended in Easton. On Sunday, the kayakers came onto shore at the Walnutport Canal Pavillion. They will have a supper, music and tent sleepover at the pavilion before leaving in the morning to continue to Northampton. Jerry McAward, president/owner of Lehighton Outdoor Center LLC and Jim Thorpe River Sports Inc. supplied kayaks and equipment for the event and shuttled lots of private kayaks and canoes. The Walnutport Canal Association welcomed the Sojourn for the first time since the pandemic. They supplied the food for their supper and breakfast for the morning before going into the water to go south. Chris Kocher, president of the conservancy, thanked the Walnutport Canal Association for welcoming them. Kocher feels the Lehigh River trip is a great way to be aware of the natural resource firsthand. He feels very fortunate to be with this event. This is the 28th year for the trip down the Lehigh River.
