Environmental center plans rattlesnake run, raft trek

The Carbon County Environmental Education Center is preparing to hold two fundraisers in the coming weeks. The events are held each year, and the public is invited.

On Saturday, the center holds its Rattlesnake Run 5k and Fun Walk in Lehigh Gorge State Park, at the Glen Onoko access.

All ages and levels of running ability are invited on this flat, out-and-back course along the D&L trail. There will be overall and age category awards, organic cookies for all finishers, plus the chance to learn about snakes and other reptiles found in the park.

On June 30, the center holds its fundraising rafting trek, through Whitewater Rafting Adventures of Nesquehoning. Open to ages 5 and up, the trip rafts on the summer float section of the Lehigh, from Jim Thorpe to Bowmanstown.

Proceeds benefit the Center’s conservation education and wildlife rehabilitation programs.

More information and sign-ups for each event are available online, at www.carboneec.org.
