Skating rink closes for night after fight threat

A skating rink in Franklin Township was closed on Saturday following a threat of a fight among juveniles.

Township police Chief Jason Doll said Monday morning there was a report that was filed, but that the incident had nothing to do with the skating rink itself.

“The juveniles actually didn’t threaten the skating rink, they were threatening to fight each other,” Doll said. “It kind of got blown out of proportion (on the internet).”

Doll added that several juveniles who were involved were all interviewed.

“There wasn’t a threat of a killing, there was a threat of a fight,” he said. “There was a social media video where a firearm was shown; it was more of an illicit threat.

“But that was tracked down. There is no threat to the skating rink itself.

At 6:12 p.m. Saturday, LaRose’s Skating Rink posted the closure of the rink on Facebook.

“We take our patrons safety very seriously, so due to circumstances beyond our control, we will not be open tonight (Saturday),” the post stated.

After the initial post, the rink updated, “just to clarify ... this has nothing to do with the building owner or renter.”
