The June Chestnuthill Township supervisors meeting on Tuesday began with public comment from Ilya Sharapan. He has concerns about the Pegasus Air Park Airport (50PA) near his property.
Sharapan said that the noise and low altitude of planes has made it unable for him to bring his children outside. He noted that from 9 a.m. to sunset people are sky diving, including landing on his property.
Township solicitor Andrew Wolf noted that the Airport is a “nonconforming” use, meaning it existed before zoning and some of these issues fall under the FAA.
Other business included the following:
• West End Fire Company reported there were 38 calls last month and the Fireman’s Festival was a huge success.
• Bids for materials included approval of H & K Group, Eureka Stone Quarry and Heidelberg Materials Northeast for different types of stone. A rebid will be put out for four items in which bids were not received.
• The Silver Valley Bridge project will be awarded to E.F. Possinger and Sons at a cost of $574,218, a reduced amount because the culvert may not be replaced in the anticipated budget.
• Payment of $164,112.46 was approved for Miller Soil Solutions for Rosebay Road through the Dirt and Gravel grant program. The road will be tarred and chipped.
• There will be a detour for five weeks onto Effort Neola Road from the Jackson Township line to Route 715 for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation bridge rehabilitation project. It will begin in the summer of 2025. Detours will be on state roads as PennDOT will repair any road problems that occur during the detour.
• Several residents spoke about concerns with grass being so high that it is blocking road signs, as well as speeding and other traffic flow issues.
• An executive session was held on May 21 for a legal issue.
• The next supervisors meeting will be at 7 p.m. on July 2.
